Method # 11 The Wide World of Podcasting

Podcasting is a new way to listen to audio files whenever they are available. Librarians can benefit from podcasting by creating a podcast and making it readily available to its users. For example, Jarrett library offers many services such as tigercat online catolog or electronic resources so users can access the library website, access online books, Full Text Journals and look up articles. Podcasting audio files explaining how to use these services through podcasting will be helpful to users accessing the library services. A user does not have to have an ipod or a listening deive to access these podcast. They can sit right at their computer and listen to these files on their PC while they are accessing the library services to take the users step by step on how to use the library services.

  1. Hi there, I just wanted to make the distinction that while there is a type of podcast that contains video (these are called vidcasts), the term "podcast" usually describes audio files that users can listen to online or that they can download to their portable audio player and listen to while they are away from their computer. But what truly makes these audio files "podcasts" is that they contain an RSS feed which allows users to subscribe to their feed and know when new podcast files are available.
